Father's Day Card Collection

Image
Father's Day is this Sunday, so I've gathered some of the cards I've made in years past, including one from this year. my post featuring this card includes a free ".studio" download As is usually the case, I forgot that I actually have  to depend on the US postal system to deliver a card, so I had to rush to throw together this card for my father-in-law this year... To the dear fathers in my life and my sweet husband, "Happy Father's Day! I love you!"

An Intro to Backlit Photos

Image
Recently, I came across some beautiful backlit photos and was greatly inspired by them. I decided to try it myself. I was delighted to get this shot after only a few minutes of shooting. 1/4000, f/2.8, ISO 200, 50mm If you're not familiar with this technique, simply put, it involves using the sun or another source of light to illuminate a subject from behind. Depending on the subject, this technique will result in either a silhouette or a beautifully illuminated subject. One can use either direct light or bounce the light onto the back of the subject. You will need to overexpose the subject to achieve an illuminated effect, or underexpose your it to create a silhouette. I still want to try other subjects to see what different results can be achieved with the backlit technique. I've seen some lovely shots of backlit fruit that I'd like to try! {Please forgive my recent absence! My family and I have embarked on a new phase in life and things have been very b...

Card: Country Snowman Digital Stamp

Image
I wish I could say that this card was my original idea, but it wasn't.... I got the inspiration from Pinterest. I did make some changes to it, however. The snowman was so adorable, I had to purchase the digital stamp for it! It took me a while, but I finally found the Country Snowman digital stamp at Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps . To make this card... I used my Silhouette to cut out the frame, used "print & cut" for the sentiment and snow banks, and cut out the snowflakes using the  lpsnowflake font. I attempted to use the "print & cut" feature on my Silhouette software for the snowman .jpg image, but it would not cut it correctly... Can some one tell me why?! Is it some trick to make me buy the full version of the software?? I ended up just printing it and then cutting it out by hand. For the rest of the card, I embossed both the frame and the card, colored the snowman with colored pencils, and added diamond stickles to the embossed white dots...

With Sympathy {Card}

Image
With World Cardmaking Day coming up on October 6, I thought I'd share another card that I created recently. I was inspired by a card I saw on Pinterest {of course!} but due to time restrictions, I wasn't able to put as much effort into it as I would have liked to.  This card was easy to put together as it was mostly layering. I cut out the flower and stem on my new Silhouette Cameo. {which I absolutely LOVE!!} My font was  CAC Lasko Condensed . Through the enabling of my friend, Dottie, I finally purchased the small Sizzix embossing machine - I love it!! {Thanks, Dottie!} I only wish I had purchased it years ago! I'd love to find an embossing folder with small polka dots... anyone know where I can find one? I'm preparing for a birthday party this week {my oldest is turning 7!}, but hopefully, I'll be able to share a few more cards before WCMD.
